Ho ho ho!
We have been busy little elves this season…dressing trees, making wreaths, decorating metre upon metre of garland. Luckily it is our favourite time of year and one of our favourite jobs to do. Especially decorating a hotel or club. Going in in the early hours of the morning to ensure the guests wake up to a complete transformation gives us such a magical Christmas feeling!
It is so easy to be inspired around this time of year, its one of the only seasonal holidays that both people at home AND at work go all out to create imaginative spaces that fill you with romance and wonder, glitter and sparkle. The use of natural elements is such a great tradition for this time of year too. We were inspired by autumn with a lot of our decor this year, incorporating burnt oranges and dark yellows with the traditional reds and greens.
What is wonderful about Christmas, we feel, is that although trends may change slightly each year, the true elements of the traditions never really change and that the best decorations are usually the most traditional. The orange slices, the pine cones, the firs and hollys, the candles, leaves, stars and twinkly fairy lights. It’s just about how you put these together that really makes the magic.
We get a lot of our ideas from theatre and set design and we are often looking for ways to push the boundaries of our creativity within the traditional conventions of art and design…so we decided it would be a wonderful idea to create an oversized, perfectly cooked and waiting to be be carved, turkey which we hung from the ceiling in the Soho Bar at the Groucho Club. Luckily, it looked fabulous, complete with knife and fork!
We hope you have a wonderful Christmas and that you’ve been good enough this year to get everything you’ve wished for!
